Jason Smith: "Shohei Ohtani Will Be Traded, & It's Only a Two-Team Race..."

Jason Smith: “This is what’s going to happen: we’re going to get toward the deadline, and only two teams will be able to make a deal for Ohtani. Nobody elseis going to get interested because of what they’d have to give up and the money they’d have to spend... Nobody else is going to trade for Ohtani except for the Mets and the Dodgers, that’s it. The Mets are bummed after losing out on Carlos Correa, and Steve Cohen is dying to give somebody money, and there’s nobody out there better out there to give money to like Shohei Ohtani. So you know he’s going to be all in, and if he’s okay with a trade to New York, he’d be okay staying in New York. The other team is the Dodgers, and they didn’t spend any money this offseason. They spent all kinds of money last year, got 111 wins, and didn’t even make it to the NLCS... There’s nobody to spend on this winter, so let’s wait because we still have a good team to field this year, and we can trade for somebody at the deadline. Plus, since they aren’t in on these big contracts anymore, they can afford to extend him in the offseason.”
Mike Harmon: “I think it comes down to what Ohtani wants and we make a lot of assumptions on what players want... So the real question, is what does Ohtani value? Who knows, maybe he enjoys going to Disneyland every day?”

Jason Smith and Mike Harmon react to Japan winning the World Baseball Classic Championship over the United States, and try to predict where Ohtani could be playing come this year’s trade deadline or offseason. Listen to the full segment above!
