Former Major League Baseball shortstop Rafael Furcal was arrested on felony charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and throwing a missile into a public or private dwelling, the Associated Press reports.
Furcal, 47, turned himself in at the Broward County Jail on Wednesday (May 14) and made bond shortly after his arrest, according to court documents. A warrant for the retired baseball player's arrest was issued by the Sunrise Police Department on Monday (May 12), however, details about his criminal charges weren't immediately made public.
Furcal made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2000 and spent his first six seasons with the franchise, which included making his first of three All-Star appearances in 2003. The Dominican Republic native signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers ahead of the 2006 season and was again selected as an All-Star in 2010 before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals midway through the 2011 season, which included with his first and only World Series championship.
Furcal, who was an All-Star for the Cardinals during the 2012 season, missed the entire 2013 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery before spending his final season with the Miami Marlins in 2014, having later signed a minor league deal with the Kansas City Royals in March 2015 before being released weeks later and officially announcing his retirement in May of that same year.
