President Trump Denies Making Crude Remark During DACA Meeting

posted by Bill Galluccio -

President Trump is firing back after a Washington Post report claimed that he asked why the U.S. was taking immigrants from “s---hole” countries during a meeting with lawmakers on their attempts to pass a bipartisan immigration bill. He then went on to slam the proposed deal that legislators are working on.

In a series of tweets on Friday (January 12) the President ripped the proposal calling it "a big step backwards" that lacked funding for the wall and made the visa lottery and chain immigration worse.

The so-called bipartisan DACA deal presented yesterday to myself and a group of Republican Senators and Congressmen was a big step backwards. Wall was not properly funded, Chain & Lottery were made worse and USA would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime.....

He said the bill would force the United States to "take large numbers of people from high crime........countries which are doing badly" He advocated for a merit based system and wants immigrants "who will help take our country to the next level."

....countries which are doing badly. I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level. I want safety and security for our people. I want to stop the massive inflow of drugs. I want to fund our military, not do a Dem defund....

He then went on to accuse the Democrats of threatening to force a government shutdown.

....Because of the Democrats not being interested in life and safety, DACA has now taken a big step backwards. The Dems will threaten “shutdown,” but what they are really doing is shutting down our military, at a time we need it most. Get smart, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

In his next tweet, Trump admitted he used "tough" language during the meeting, but denied making the profane comment. He said "what was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!"

The language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used. What was really tough was the outlandish proposal made - a big setback for DACA!

He again denied saying "anything derogatory about Haitians" and that he "never said “take them out."

Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!

Democratic senator Dick Durbin, who was in the meeting with Trump, confirmed that the president made the crude remark. He claims Trump made comments "that were hate-filled, vile and racist."

President Trump's rejection of the proposal, along with international condemnation. of his comments has tempered the hope that lawmakers will be able to come up with a bipartisan solution that restores DACA, while funding the border wall, changing the visa lottery system, and ending chain migration.
